Some things to think about. Tim Ruskell and Ruston Webster drafted Shaun King in the 2nd round in 1999. He started the final 6 games of his rookie year, going 4-2, then leading Tampa Bay to the NFC Championship game, losing 11-6 to Super Bowl champs St. Louis. The following season he started all 16 games and went 10-6 leading Tampa to another playoff berth. Yes, he has not done much since then on the field. Gruden brought in Brad Johnson the following season, but King was on that team learning the West Coast offense for 3 years, then 2 more years at Arizona with Dennis Green's West Coast offense. He was out of football last year, but spent his time pursuing charities in Tampa, so he is a good guy to boot.
If you look at who went after him, Eric Mangini was an assitant in Tampa Bay and then Tony Dungy who was his head coach there. People who know him, like him. I am not saying he is great by any stretch, but if Hasselbeck were to go down, it would be nice to have someone with some starts and even 3 playoff starts to plug in there. It would also have made Seneca Wallace available for the slash role.
I have tried to find another veteran QB the Seahawks could possibly sign, but Kerry Collins or Fiedler will command too much money and are not good fits for our system and Tony Banks, Jeff Blake or Ty Detmer are the only other players left. Detmer is a west coast offense guy, but I think he has great grandchildren.
