The first half of practice had the offense and defense split with the defense on the side field (so I didn’t see any of that). Then the defense came over, so the entire team was in the stadium. The easiest way to break down the practice is probably by position, so I will do a series of posts covering one or several positions, starting with the offensive line.

Offensive Line
At the start of practice they had two separate drills, one for tackles and one for interior linemen.

There were two groups with the tackles: Jonathan Alston and Walter Jones, and then Sean Locklear, Tom Ashworth, and Kyle Williams. Jones was basically always playing defense, which meant he was holding a big pad and pushing at Alston. The other three guys were rotating equally with one playing tackle, one on defense, and one standing off to the side. That meant that Alston was getting basically getting 3 times as much work as anyone else.

Willis was working exclusively with the interior guys. The groupings were: Sims-Spencer-Gray and Wrotto-Ross-Willis.

Later, they did a half-line (either to the right or left with a center, guard, and tackle) pass-rush drill. The groups were:
1) LT Jones-LG Sims-C Spencer
2) C Ross-RG Gray-RT Locklear
3) LT Alston-LG Wrotto-C Ross
4) C King-RG Willis-RT Ashworth

When they went to the full team drills, the first two lines were:
Jones-Sims-Spencer-Gray-Locklear
Alston-Wrotto-Ross-Willis-Ashworth

Jones didn't participate much after about 2/3 of the practice. Then the lines were:
Locklear-Sims-Spencer-Gray-Ashworth
Alston-Wrotto-Ross-Willis-Williams

The thing that really stands out is that Steve Vallos almost never participates. He was basically only in there when Austin King was at center and Derek Devine was at QB.

Alston didn’t look nearly as good as I thought he did during the scrimmage. He got completely whooped on a play by Darryl Tapp around the outside. I am not even sure Tapp was touched. And when the second team line was in there, more breakdowns occurred on the left side (Alston-Wrotto) than on the right (Willis-Ashworth and Willis-Williams).
